Lessons I've learnt in my 40's

Assalalamualikum warrahmatullahi wabarakatuh

Alhamdulillah, Im officially 41 now on last 3rd November.

Another year OLDER, WISER (In shaa Allah) and MORE GRATEFUL.

There is no big celebrations but just had dinner with bestie, Siti Zahira at Excapade Sushi and exchange gift.

I just asked myself, what have I learnt so far in  my adult life, especially as a Muslimah?? This modern time are so busy, all I know is I experience a 'RUSH HOUR LIFE'.

So here are my lists of lessons .....most of them are on spiritual reflections and act of worship.

#1 REMEMBER DEATH

Remember often the destroyer of pleasures. Dunya is temporary. It remind us not to think much about worldly matters, it reminds us of our purpose in life and it also can cause us think seriously of our Akhirah and more sincere in life.

#2 QADAR ALLAH

What is destined will reach you even it is deep down in the ocean. What isn't destined will not reach you even it is between your two lips! No doubt Allah has decreed everything about us before we were born. Everything happens are by the will of Allah and whatever he does not will not happen.

#3 NEVER COMPARE OURSELVES WITH OTHERS

Avoid this. Allah has blessed us in different ways.
"Do not strain your eyes in longing for the things that we have given to some groups of them to enjoy, the splendour of the life of this world through which we test them. The provision of your Lord is better and everlasting"(Quran 20:131)

#4 BE GRATEFUL ALWAYS

Be ever grateful for everything that you possess your car, your wealth, your health, your job, your family etc. Allah has told us, "Ïf you are grateful, He is pleased with you" Remember to always says Alhamdulillah.

#5 GO TRAVEL

Travel and see Allah's creation. By this, you will become close to Allah. Each time you see stunning waterfall, breathtaking view of valleys, mountains and lakes will make you think that this is the creation of Allah. Indeed Allah is able to do all things. This is the reasom why muslims should travel.

#6 SILLATURRAHIM

Connecting with each other to strengthen the bond of friendship, sisterhood and brotherhood. Sillaturrahim acts are visitng families, friends, neighbors. Be kind to everyone you meet. Spread salaams. Also don't forget to visit your parent's friends families.

#7 READ MORE ISLAMIC BOOKS AND ALQURAAN

What will polish the hearts? There will be a lot of lessons and knowledge by reading more Islamic books. For Alquran, it is the cure for any illness. Manual for life. So purify and polish our hearts by reading Alquraan daily.

#8 BE HUMBLE

We must be humble towards one another. "And do not upon the earth proudly".Never think that you have rights on others, feel superior, feel better than the others. Spread love, honor and respect.

#9 BE RESERVED

Not everything people need to know about us.Remain mystery. Or if you see someone or something you like from someone that you want it for yourself, make doa and pray for blessing for them. Just make silent doa,

#10 WHAT YOU GIVE IS WHAT YOU GET

I learnt that this is a secret to happiness. One of the best example is helping others. For it is in giving that we receive. Also I learnt that it is better to give than to receive. There is a Chinese saying that goes :

If you want happiness for an hour, go fishing
If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune
If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.

#11 SPEAK GOOD WORDS

Stay away from foul language, cursing, offensive words. To speak good words is among the best characteristic of a Muslim. It is better to remain silent.

#12 DON'T BE STINGY

Once in a while, buy gift for your parents, sisters, brothers, close friends or treat them to a nice restaurant. Or a cup of coffee. This is to show your appreciation towards each other.

#13 TAKE YOUR TIME WITH ALLAH ALONE

We must remember that we must spend the time to fulfill our very purpose in life to worship Allah. Spend time alone with Him eg you go to a mosque alone, make doa and pour your heart out of Him. This will make our connection with Him stronger. Talk to Him and tell everything you want.

#14 INVOLVE IN CHARITABLE WORKS

Plan to do more for charity or volunteer in some way. You will gain a satisfaction , feeling good as well as gaining valuable experience and benefits yourself. Giving in even simple ways to help others or those in need will improve ourselves.

#15 HEALTH CONSCIOUS

I realised that I am a health-conscious person than before. I buy more organic foods, eat more fruits and trying to reduce sugar intake. I am still trying though....to develop healthy eating habit.  Prophet Muhammad stressed to practice of eating in moderation, eating less to prevent sickness and diseases, which is now supported by doctors today.

#16 THINKING GOOD OF OTHERS

Not an easy task but In shaa Allah we can. Allah said Ö you who have believed, avoid much (negative) assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin, and do noy spy or backbite each other....
Do always think good of others, don't condemn somebody for something. Keep a good feelings all the time.

#17 COOK DISHES FOR YOUR LOVED ONES

Ever heard this "cook with love?" A meal made with love really does taste better. May be you think you are not a great cook but the dish you prepare for them is something that for sure your family will enjoy and appreciate. And of course this doesn't have to be everyday, even only you cooked for them on their special occasion is already an extraordinary act. This is also an act of worship to Allah.

#18 HAVE FAITH IN ALLAH

Especially in difficulties and hardships, trust Allah always. If you're going through something difficult, then know that Allah will not abandon you. Always pray and stay close to Him. He is our bestfriend.

#19 LIVING IN MODERATION

Islam teaches us to be moderate in life whether it is relationship, ideas or daily life activities.
"Hidup sederhana pernuh berkah". Do not be wasteful and extravagant, nor overly attached to worldly things, just live in moderation.

#20 LIVE WITH A CLEAN HEART

Imam Ali said : "The disease of the heart is worse than the disease of the body". So we have to think about the state of the heart, we have to work on it. And one of the best way is doing zikir. By doing zikir, we polish the heart like a shining mirror In shaa Allah.

Till then,
LEM
